About Slim & Soph
We are Slim & Soph, two full-time university students completing a circumnavigation of Australia aboard our 10 metre (34 foot) sailing vessel Nakama.
After putting study on the back burner for years as we didn’t want to sacrifice adventure, we thought why not have both? Fed up with the outrageous rental prices in our hometown, the idea of doing it afloat came to mind. We figured we could scrape by on our tight student budget if we stopped paying wayyy too much rent and lived minimally on the ocean, whilst continuing our passion for adventure. And that’s exactly what we did. The plan for now, is to keep sailing onwards, keeping Australia to our left.
In an attempt to avoid the suffrage of family photo nights we started uploading YouTube videos as a means of keeping our family in the loop of our whereabouts and shenanigans. To our surprise the videos have been met with an increasingly positive response from the wider community and we found ourselves becoming progressively more passionate about film making. Whilst Slim has chosen to continue with his lifelong dream on becoming a lawyer (boring right), it has shaped Soph’s decision to pursue film making as a profession, leading to her to enrol in a Bachelor of Digital Media. In other words, we love every step of making these videos for you.
Our mission is to prove that anyone can do it, you don’t need the fanciest boat or a squillion bucks, just a whole lot of ambition and a willingness to make mistakes and learn. Our moto aboard Nakama is “do it while you can, not when you’re ready” and we’ve had the time of our life chasing our tails ever since.

If you get enjoyment out of the videos and would like to contribute to their continued existence in some way than thats awesome! A little can go a long way to helping us cover the costs of things like editing software and upgrading or replacing camera gear in the harsh salty environment we submit it too.
